 Schedule

Our media center opperates on a flexible schedule.  Students may come and check out books individually or in small groups with the exception of the Ninth Grade Academy English students. They have a weekly scheduled time to come and check out a book as a whole group with their English teacher.  This provides an extra opportunity for them to visit the media center as they are transitioning into high school.  Teachers also have the opportunity to schedule small and whole group research times for their students.  During this time students learn and use research skills to complete a computerized or written project assigned by their teacher.

 Book Campaign

This year Ninth Grade Academy students are participating in an  18 Book Reading Campaign where they are challenged to  read at least 9 books per semester.    Students are held accountable for reading a book by taking an Accelerated Reader test or completing a graphic organizer.  These two assessments will determine how well the student read the book.  Those students who read at least nine books by the end of the first semester will be rewarded with a literacy based field trip and meal and those students who read at least eighteen books by the end of the second semester will also be rewarded with a literacy based field trip and meal.

 Accelerated Reader

All students have access to Accelerated Reader.  Accelerated Reader (AR) is a daily progress monitoring software assessment in wide use by primary and secondary schools for monitoring the practice of reading, and it is created by Renaissance Learning, Inc. Currently, there are two versions: a desktop version and a web-based version in Renaissance Place. Our central office has provided all Mobile County Public Schools with the web-based version of the program.  (The above Accelerated Reader information was taken from the following website   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerated_Reader_Program.)  For more information about Renaissace Place, please visit http://www.renlearn.com//.
