Monday, June 27, 2016

The Williamson Middle Grades Preparatory Academy is located on the campus of Williamson High School. It provides students in grades 6-8 with preparatory programs that support successful transitions into high school and into the Signature Academy program, with the goal being for students to graduate well prepared for college and/or to enter the workforce.

Students in the Middle Grades Academy will be introduced to Williamson’s Signature Academy of Manufacturing, Engineering and Entrepreneurship though career and technical education classes.

Academic programs will be of increased rigor and relevance, with more variety in elective courses. Among these electives is a farm-to-table agriculture course in which a greenhouse and raised planting beds will be used for students to learn to grow fruits, vegetables and herbs, which will be sold to local restaurants, used in the Culinary Arts Program, and shared with the community.

Students in the Middle Grades Academy will attend classes in a designated wing at Williamson High School. They will arrive and leave school separately from Williamson High School students and will eat during separate lunch waves.

Student support and safety at the Middle Grades Academy will be enhanced through mentoring and intervention programs and community partnerships, as well as the presence of a full-time school resource officer.
